After a string of sold out concerts, Aditya Gandhi is touring India with his guitar and unconventional ideas, beginning with shows in his home state of Gujarat.
Does the idea of Beatles and Japanese music at the same time sound intriguing?
The core concept of the concert is to present unusual synthesis of musical style - to bring out a humorous and playful side of classical music. If you know what a classical music concert sounds like, you’re probably in for something new.
Humor in music is a bit different from what we are used to. Rather than punch lines and laugh-out-loud comedy, musical humor plays with the expectations of the listener. The program will give the audience the perfect mix of familiarity - a known tune, a common genre, an expected sound - and then distort those assumptions with something unexpected. It will leap between the anticipated and the unknown, aiming to surprise and intrigue the audience.
The program will also leap between various styles and origins, with music from Cuba, Scotland, Japan, France and Paraguay; presenting stories, dances, and some unusual expressions you may not expect in music.
This concert, and the title Prelude and Leaps, also pays homage to the recently deceased French composer Roland Dyens, presenting two of his works and drawing inspiration from his legacy of leaping between genres and presenting classical music in an unusual light.
